Terms of Service

By accessing or using Ask Akil Intelligence at askakil.ai (the "Service"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service ("Terms"). If you do not agree to these Terms, do not use the Service. The Service is operated by Akil Ventures Inc., a Delaware corporation ("Akil," "we," "us," or "our").

Akil is a civic intelligence platform that answers questions about New York City government funding, nonprofits, NYC funding sources, and public data. The Service queries publicly available government datasets and uses AI to generate responses. Akil is designed for informational and research purposes and should not be relied upon as the sole basis for legal, financial, or compliance decisions.

Some features require an account. You agree to provide accurate information when creating your account and to keep your credentials secure. You are responsible for all activity that occurs under your account. You must be at least 13 years old to use the Service.

You agree not to: use the Service for any unlawful purpose; attempt to gain unauthorized access to the Service or its systems; use automated tools to scrape, crawl, or extract data from the Service at scale; interfere with or disrupt the Service; impersonate any person or entity; use the Service to harass, defame, or harm others; misrepresent Akil outputs as official government data, certified reports, or legal findings; or use the Service to generate content intended to mislead voters, manipulate elections, or fabricate evidence.

AI can make mistakes. All responses from Akil are generated by artificial intelligence. While we strive for accuracy, AI may misinterpret your question, select incorrect data, present information out of context, or draw incorrect connections between data points. AI-generated responses should always be verified against original sources before being used for decision-making, official documents, publications, legal proceedings, or filings.

Data integrity. All figures, amounts, and records presented by Akil are sourced directly from publicly available government databases without alteration or manipulation. We do not modify, adjust, or fabricate any data. Dollar amounts, dates, entity names, and record counts are presented as they appear in the original government sources.

Government data limitations. Public data sources may contain errors, omissions, or outdated information at the source. We do not guarantee the accuracy, completeness, or timeliness of any data published by government agencies. Data freshness depends on when the source agency last updated its records.

Entity matching. Akil cross-references data across multiple government databases. Matching organizations and individuals across databases with different naming conventions involves probabilistic matching that may occasionally produce incorrect connections. Users should verify any cross-referenced findings independently.

Anomaly detection. Certain features surface statistical patterns in public data, such as unusual funding concentrations, revenue changes, or payment gaps. These are data patterns only. They do not imply wrongdoing, corruption, misconduct, or illegality of any kind. Anomaly findings should be interpreted as signals for further research, not as conclusions.

Not professional advice. The Service does not constitute legal, financial, tax, audit, or compliance advice. Consult qualified professionals for decisions that require professional guidance.

You may upload files (CSV, Excel, PDF) to be analyzed alongside public data. Uploaded files are processed in real-time for the duration of your conversation only. We do not store your uploaded files on our servers after your session ends. We do not share uploaded file contents with third parties. File contents are not used to train AI models. You are responsible for ensuring you have the right to share any files you upload.

The Service, including its design, code, data architecture, AI agents, system configuration, and branding, is owned by Akil Ventures Inc. and protected by intellectual property laws. The underlying government data queried by the Service is public information.

You retain ownership of any content you submit (such as queries and uploaded files). By using the Service, you grant us a limited license to process your queries and generate responses.

Your use of the Service is also governed by our Privacy Policy, which describes how we collect, use, and protect your information.

We aim to keep the Service available at all times but do not guarantee uninterrupted access. We may modify, suspend, or discontinue the Service (or any part of it) at any time, with or without notice. We are not liable for any downtime or service interruptions.

The Service is currently free to use. If we introduce paid features in the future, we will notify you in advance and provide clear pricing before any charges apply. Free access may be subject to usage limits.

We may suspend or terminate your access to the Service at any time for violation of these Terms or for any other reason at our discretion. You may delete your account at any time by contacting us at hello@akilventures.com.

THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, WHETHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE SERVICE WILL BE ERROR-FREE, UNINTERRUPTED, OR SECURE.

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, AKIL VENTURES INC. AND ITS OFFICERS, DIRECTORS, EMPLOYEES, AND AGENTS SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR ANY LOSS OF PROFITS, DATA, OR GOODWILL, ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF OR INABILITY TO USE THE SERVICE. OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ANY CLAIM ARISING FROM THESE TERMS OR THE SERVICE SHALL NOT EXCEED THE AMOUNT YOU PAID US IN THE 12 MONTHS PRECEDING THE CLAIM, OR $100, WHICHEVER IS GREATER.

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Akil Ventures Inc. from any claims, damages, losses, or expenses (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising from your use of the Service or violation of these Terms.

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of New York, without regard to conflict of law principles. Any disputes arising from these Terms or the Service shall be resolved in the state or federal courts located in New York County, New York.

We may update these Terms from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by posting the updated Terms on this page and updating the "Last updated" date. Your continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
